The Damage Porn Can Do to Teens: Billie Eilish’s Regret
Most people today are familiar with Billie Eilish, a talented Grammy winning singer. She spoke recently on how even celebrities are not immune to the damaging effects of porn.
We admire and acknowledge Billie’s strength and honesty to share her story of how porn use has affected her personally. As parents we need to help guide our teens away from these temptations and as a young adults we need to break the stigma among the youth, it’s not “cool” anymore.
Billie’s here to tell you why –
Billie Sings on Damaging Porn Use
In an interview on The Howard Stern Show, she spoke passionately about her opinion on porn and how it affected her.
“I think porn is a disgrace. I used to watch a lot of porn, to be honest. I started watching porn when I was, like, 11,”
She admitted, also mentioning that porn she thought made her feel cool and “one of the guys”.
“I think it really destroyed my brain and I feel incredibly devastated that I was exposed to so much porn,”
She said that the porn she watched was very violent and abusive and that it gave her nightmares. The ease of access and prevalence it has on youth as well as adults too.
Damaging Relationships & Self Esteem
Not only did porn affect her mind, it also damaged her relationships. She mentioned how porn hurt her self-esteem, making her susceptible to doing being convinced to do harmful sexual acts.
“The first few times I, you know, had sex, I was not saying no to things that were not good. It was because I thought that’s what I was supposed to be attracted to,” Eilish said.
Porn also made herself conscious about her body. One of the reasons she wears baggy clothing is to avoid being objectified. She gets outspoken on her position about body image and her dislike of pornography itself.
“Women’s bodies don’t look like that. We don’t come like that,” she added. “I’m so angry that porn is so loved, and I’m so angry at myself for thinking that it was OK.”
Her statements about porn are accurate. Not only does it ruin how men and women view each other’s bodies, it warps people’s views on sex and what a sexually healthy relationship should look like. Porn can have just as negative effects on adolescents of both genders, not just boys. It’s more a problem today than ever, and even celebrities are not immune to the effects of it.
